EU Women

EU Women

The EU Women project aims to increase the number of women considering self employment by developing a tailored pre-enterprise learning programme and making it available online. EU Women is co-funded by the the European Commission through the Leonardo da Vinci programme and involves colaboration between partner organisations in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Italy, Lithuania,

Portugal, Romania, Spain and the UK.

Course Content

The partners will develop an easy to understand, innovative and interactive online training course that will be structured into units. This pre-enterprise programme will assist women to consider self employment by exploring issues such as ideas generation, female entrepreneurship, introduction to marketing, setting up a business, introduction to financial planning, sources of small business support and European best practice. Following the delivery of pilot courses in Bulgaria, Italy & Romania the materials will be amended where appropriate.

Objectives

The EU Women project will:

-develop bespoke, innovative pre-enterprise learning

materials for women;

-provide a flexible online study programme that will

adapt to participants lifestyles;

-be focused on the needs of women who face particular

challenges (e.g. those with few formal qualifications, those

experiencing socio-economic deprivation, those who have withdrawn from the labour market to raise a family);

-assist women participants across Europe to develop new pre-enterprise skills and enhance their personal growth;

-involve the transfer of knowledge and innovation

along with the sharing of best practice between partner

countries;

-encourage participants to consider self-employment as

a realistic, viable and achievable option.

Target Group

It is hoped that the EU Women project will benefit women from across the EU, particularly those who face the greatest pre-enterprise challenges (e.g. women living in rural areas, those with little or no academic qualififications, the long term unemployed, full time carers, etc.).

Results and Impact

The partners anticipate that by developing innovative

learning materials and making these accessible to women across Europe the EU Women project will:

-enable women to learn about pre-enterprise;

-empower women to take the next step towards self

employment;

-facilitate the transfer of knowledge, innovation and best practice between partner countries;

-contribute to the economic development of member

states.

The next project meeting is in Sofia, Bulgaria 14th - 18th October 2009.
